The new Mr and Mrs Brandon are on honeymoon, and Becky has big plans! They’ve got a whole year to explore Venice, learn yoga in India, sleep in little wooden huts in South America… maybe even see penguins in the Antarctic. And of course they’ll need to buy just a few essential souvenirs along the way (everyone needs a set of Murano glass goblets, after all).

They’re not just tourists, they’re travellers. Becky is sure it is just the thing that Luke needs – time to unwind. He’ll come back a changed man… with all the good bits still intact of course.

But it soon becomes clear that Luke has different plans entirely. Can Becky help him let go, or will this little disagreement threaten their whole honeymoon?

Review

Shopaholic on Honeymoon is a short story which follows the third book in Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella ‘Shopaholic ties the knot’ This short story emphasizes on the marvelous honeymoon trip which Becky plans for Luke and her. In the end of the previous book, right after the wedding Becky proposes to Luke to take a year break and travel the world along with her since he was under a lot of pressure months before their wedding and he hasn’t really taken a break in a very long time. Luke agrees to it and this book is all about that honeymoon trip of theirs.

Though the idea of this honeymoon is extremely marvelous, only people who are really passionate about traveling and has a hell lot of money can actually act upon this idea, especially considering Becky’s overspending shopaholic nature. So definitely this plot idea is like a fantasy for many readers and many actually cannot picture themselves in such a scenario. When Luke decides to cut short their trip to a month, Becky gets really offended as it wasn’t something that they agreed upon initially and put up a great drama. It’s quite understandable for her to get offended but Luke is a workaholic and a career oriented man, you cannot change him overnight. So if Becky had been more considerate about it given him, his space and behaved in more matured and sophisticated manner, it would’ve been nice to read. Her behavior seemed unreasonable and childish.

This story was highly disappointed, it obviously didn’t quench the reading thirst of the readers and it did let down the readers and fans of the shopaholic series far beyond expectation. The author didn’t take on the readers to a trip around the world as it promised in the blurb and it’s one of the many reasons why this short story wasn’t up to the mark. Though there were lot of quirks of Becky Bloomwood throughout the story, even that wasn’t enough to call it a good one.

My views

I was seriously excited to read this book and while starting to read it, I wasn’t aware that it was a short story and I was thinking the author would take me on the fabulous trip. But all that was mentioned in this book was Venice and that too wasn’t sufficient enough. The blurb and the lack of prior information about the book did misled me. It would have been really good, had it been a full-fledged novel because as the story came to its end, it almost felt like it has been stopped abruptly without any closure and that wasn’t a good feeling with which I would like to finish a book.

If you are a Shopaholic series fan, there is nothing wrong in reading a 28 page long short story which is available for free in Amazon and Sophie Kinsella’s website. But, all I would suggest you to do is, don’t keep your hopes high because it will only make you more disappointed.

My rating for this book would be 2 / 5 stars
