Sushi for beginners by Marian Keyes is a story of three women Lisa, Ashling and Clodagh.

Lisa is a boss woman who works as an editor in a London based fashion magazine. She is the incarnation of beauty with brains. She does anything and everything to achieve her desire outcome and of course has a very successful career. Whilst expecting a promotion to New York she unfortunately ends up being transferred to Dublin, Ireland as an editor-in-chief for a brand-new magazine called Colleen. This turn of events crushes down Lisa’s spirit altogether and she literally hates her life for slithering down to the bottom of the stair.

Ashling, an organised and trustworthy woman who constantly sinks in the sea of self-doubt, also joins the Colleen magazine, as the assistant editor to upgrade her career. She is insanely crazy about handbags which almost has all the important and unimportant supplies one may need or needn’t. And there is this homeless friendly boy on her doorstep to whom she gives away her free review copies from work as he loves reading.

Clodagh on the other hand has the perfect life, the perfect husband and two adorable kids, she always gets stuffs done in her life easier than anticipated. Yet she is unhappy with the way her life marches and all she wanted to do is to kiss an ugly frog and jeopardize everything that she has got.

“Of course I’ll respect you in the morning,’ she reassured. ‘I might disparage you a bit in the afternoon, mind,’ she added. ‘But I can guarantee my undivided respect in the morning.”

Review

It is a feel good novel narrated from the perspective of Lisa, Ashling and Clodagh. These three women stages up together to present one of the hilarious novels in the literary world. This book is more of a chic lit than a romance novel with all the essential substance which makes a chic lit charming. The writing style is the most fabulous thing about this book, it hooks up the readers to the book with the writing skills of the author. It was ultimately an easy read, something just perfect for summer TBR. Since the book was way too big, picking up the book might be a difficult task but once started there is no way stopping the phase and it wasn’t boring at any point. The length of the book also helps the readers to understand the characters in greater details. There were back stories to all the characters to unveil why they are the way they are, and those back stories were reasonable. The life of these three women has been sublimely collaborated with one another. The characterization of Jack, Oliver and Dylan has been written in a likeable manner. There are many supporting characters in the book and it was not at all confusing, they all played their part majestically. Few notable supporting characters in the book are Boo, Ted, Joy, Trix and the kids of course, they were the foundation to the story. The plot was well developed, good and light-hearted.

Coming to the title, it’s an interesting title to hawl the readers and there is also a good reason why it’s named so. The way in which the author has described sushi was mouth watering, even the people who hates sushi will fall in love with sushi.

My Views

I personally loved the climax, all the three of them got their deserving climaxes. The writing style was commendable. Of all the three main characters Ashling was my personal favorite and towards the end I liked Lisa. I initially liked Clodagh but I eventually found myself hating her. Although I was reading this book after nineteen years of its release, I could able to relate to it and I really enjoyed it so much. The Irish touch book gave was new and afresh.

I recommend this book to all the chic lit lovers, to the people who are interested in women centric plots and to the readers who are looking for a feel good book. You guys will totally love this book. It was hilariously funny and humorous and it felt good.

My rating for this book is 3.9 / 5  🌟🌟🌟🌟
