Review
Murder at the Polo Bar is a Short Story written by Gautam. The story revolves around a murder mystery involving a group of college students Isha, Adhi, Zoya, Sanam, Tania and Rohan. Rohan who is the owner of the Polo Bar is the person who is missing from the murder scene and Police suspect he is the one who has been murdered by his five friends. So all his friends are being investigated by the Police as everyone of them has their own reason and motive to have murdered Rohan.
This is a very fast moving short story. The writing style and the language of the author was really good and was extremely easy to read. The flow of the story was flawless and it made the story a readable one. The narrative style of the story was bit repetitive and the story has been narrated from the perspective of six people, which made it kind of confusing and annoying for the readers to read at certain instances. For a short story this many perspective switches was completely unnecessary. Third person’s perspective would have been more reasonable. Despite this bummer the plot was very engaging and compulsive, as every characters started to unravel their side of the story, but to enjoy that you will have to concentrate a bit more. The basic plot line and the idea of the story was genuinely good, it might’ve been even more better, if the story had been a little bit longer, it would’ve made it easier for the readers to understand the plot and the characters in greater depth. The investigation process carried out by the police wasn’t satisfactory because they just kept on talking instead of taking any actions. And the interaction between the students and the Police officer was too childish. The way the author has ended the story was very interesting but it lacked clarity and details and wasn’t up to the mark. Though the plot was fast pacing and engaging, it cannot be called a thriller because there wasn’t anything thrilling about the plot and it was quite predictable.
I would recommend this piece of work by the author to people who are looking for short stories and quick reads.
My rating for this book would be 1.4 / 5 stars 🌟
