Niklaus Mikaelson : Favorite Fictional Character

KLAUS MIKAELSON

Niklaus Mikaelson is a lead character in the famous TV shows ‘The Vampire Diaries’ and ‘The Originals’ which was played by British actor Joseph Morgan. Niklaus Mikaelson is also commonly known as Klaus. He is an Original Vampire and an Original Hybrid (Vampire + Werewolf). Klaus is known as one of the most dreaded and merciless Villain of the series. Klaus first appeared in the second season of The Vampire Diaries and continued till the fourth season of the series, where he played an antagonist role and later got himself a show of his own called The Originals.

Klaus Mikaelson entered into The Vampire Diaries after a plethora of mass introductions given by the other characters in the series, for many episodes people will be talking around how bad, ruthless and powerful he is. Once he appeared on the screen for the first, to be very frank I din’t have a big opinion on him, I almost felt like all these introductions were too much for him because he didn’t look like a big bad villain and all. But then as the series commenced, he really turned out to be a scary and threatening person as elucidated by others. I remember I hated him a lot in the beginning, after all he is the antagonist of the story why would anyone like him ? But the way in which the creators of the show Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, developed his character was unbelievable.

I personally started to fall in love with Klaus’s character after he became fond of Caroline Forbes. Klaus had this unique way of showing his love and care to the people he loves, he gives them all his attention and focus. It was really heart warming to see the most dangerous villain to show glimpses of vulnerability and his love filled side. It is always good to see a bad character transform into something good, which we would never have anticipated in a million years. He is someone very strong, powerful, narcissistic, manipulative and heartlessly bad but at the same time he is compassionate, sensitive, lovable and extremely emotional. With the commencement of each episode, he turned from an antagonist to a life saving hero of the series. If the lead characters are in problem, Klaus will come to their rescue, that’s how his character got developed. I would say Niklaus Mikaelson’s character is one character which has good character development and appropriate backstory. I love the way how his character got refined with every incident.

However, in The Vampire Diaries, he was one among the lead characters but in The Originals, you will get to see this lovely side of Klaus because here, he is the hero. The story is said from his perspective, everyone is a hero of his own story, isn’t it ? This series gave a lot insights about his character, behavior and decisions in a greater depth. What made Klaus more likable was, his relationship with his loved ones. Klaus is a very reserved kind of person, he don’t believe anybody so soon but if he does, it will be legendary. First I would like to start with his relationship with his siblings. The love he has for his siblings are endless and it has been beautifully portrayed in The Originals. Yeah most of the time he does something stupid and mess up things but that was all because he loves them and he wanted to protect them and have them beside him. After all din’t they promise each other, to be there for each other “ALWAYS AND FOREVER” ? Of all the siblings Elijah and Rebekah are Klaus’s favorite. Klaus is extremely possessive about his sister Rebekah. His temper, hot-headedness was perfectly balanced by his brother Elijah. Elijah has always been his conscience and had been there for him all the time, making sure he doesn’t go out control and always does the good and the right thing. His relationship with his sister Freya was also remarkable, from doubting her loyalty to trusting blindly, they both grew closer. The soft corner Klaus had towards his first hybrid, Tyler Lockwood was one of the first entries in his heart through which the audience came to know about the kindness and love his heart possessed.

His character, takes a whole new turn when he gets to know about his unborn child growing in Hayley’s womb. Hayley and Klaus share a unique bond, the love and respect they have for each other was commendable. They don’t really exhibit it very often but you know it exist. I haven’t seen any relationship so pure and beautiful as theirs. After the birth of his daughter Hope, he proved to the world that he, The Big Bad Vampire Klaus Mikaelson is a better father than his abusive stepfather Mikael who was the reason behind his brutality. In fact Klaus is the best father you’ll ever see. Klaus and Hope’s love for paintings, how they get along with each other is the most favorite part mine. They way he loves her more than anything in the world and how protects her was really adorable. Who would have thought the narcissistic, self-centered, selfish Klaus would love someone more than himself ? They are the perfect Father-daughter duo of recent times. His fatherly affection towards Marcel Gerard despite their regular enmity, broadcasted how seriously he takes love and relationships.

Klaus’s romantic relationships are little old-school but it was obviously a visual treat to the audience. He don’t fall in love that often, but when he does, it’ll be the most epic love story of all. If you take his relationship with Caroline as well as Camille, they are so good to watch and experience. He never rush up into relationships, he take them slowly and masterfully. And that’s one of the best stuffs about Klaus.

These are the few reasons why I love Klaus Mikaelson the most and Joseph Morgan had done a great job in bring out Klaus’s character on screen through his efficient acting skills. If you too like Klaus, don’t forget to tell me what you like about him on the comment session below. If hadn’t watched the series, I would say you are missing out a really nice series, do watch them.

There is also a Trilogy about him and his siblings which was written by the creator of The Vampire Diaries and The Originals shows, Julie Plec, here are their links,

Book 1 : The Rise (The Originals)

Book 2 : The Loss (The Originals)

Book 3 : The Resurrection (The Originals)

Hope you loved this session.

Will be back with another wonderful character soon!
