Will travel broaden the mind…..or just loosen the purse strings ?

For Rebecca Bloomwood, life is peachy. She has a job on morning TV, her bank manager is actually being nice to her, and when it comes to spending money, her new motto is Buy Only What You Need – and she’s really (sort of) sticking to it. The icing on the brioche is that she’s been offered a chance to work in New York.

New York! The Museum of Modern Art! The Guggenheim! the Metropolitan Opera House! And Becky does mean to go to them all. Honestly. It’s just that it seems silly not to check out a few other famous places first. Like Saks. And Bloomingdales. And Barneys. And one of those fantastic sample sales where you can get a Prada dress for $10. Or was it $100 ?

Is Becky too dazzled to care ?

Shopaholic Abroad for the biggest culture shop of your life.

Review

Shopaholic Abroad is the second book in the shopaholic series. The overspending Shopaholic, Becky Bloomwood’s life is nothing short of perfection. She has sorted out her financial problems, now she is pretty famous, has very good career and a perfect boyfriend. Her life gets even more marvelous when her boyfriend Luke Brandon proposes her to move in with him to the New York City. But as it is very typical of Becky Bloomwood everything gets messed up because of her careless shopping history. This book deals with how Becky gets her life back together in one piece valiantly, of course with the epic blend of Becky Bloomwood’s hilariously funny thought process and behavior.

This book will take you to various shopping arena that is there to visit in the famous New York City. The plot of this book had lot of depth to it and it goes deeper into the lives of the Becky and Luke. There are lot of funny and entertaining parts which will make the readers very happy and content. In fact there won’t be any shortage for humor and laughter while you’re reading it. The love between Becky and Luke has been shown in a loving and elaborate manner and that’s what made this book better than the previous one. The plot was simple, sweet and smooth, and the way the plot unfolds was extremely bewitching to read. There was a mild introduction of a couple of new characters who would be playing significant roles in the upcoming books in the series. And one among them was Michael, Michael is a partner, friend and ally of Luke. His role as a supporting character was remarkable and he was pleasantly helpful to both Becky and Luke. The support shown by Becky’s friends Suze and Tarquin when she has quite literally lost everything was astonishingly stunning. There was this character called Alicia-Bitch-Long-Legs, well that’s how Becky addresses her and now you can understand how much Becky hates her. This Alicia person plays the role of an antagonist in the book, Shopaholic Abroad. How the author has made use of this character was outstanding.

The writing was really cool, one doesn’t really needs to talk about the writing skills of Sophie Kinsella, she is best at what she does. The plot was flawless. It was a fast read and   to be very frank, it was much more better than the first book.

My views

Definitely, this book is my top most favorite in the shopaholic series. I totally loved the plot. It was deeper and had an emotional connect to it whereas the previous one was funny but at the same time it lacked emotions. I loved the way Becky and Luke’s relationship was tested and the turns it took at different level was good to read. The book was very engaging. I would say, this book is whole package.

I would recommend this book to all chicklit, rom-com, humor lovers. If you had read the first book “The secret dreamworld of a shopaholic” and found it unrealistic and unakin to read, then I would really ask you to give this book a chance because this book will make you understand Becky more and most certainly, it will hijack you into Becky Bloomwood’s mind’s world. It’s obviously a good to book to read.

My rating for this book would be 4.3 / 5 star

Rating: 4 out of 5.
