Review

The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic or Confession of a Shopaholic is the first book in the famous Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella. Confession of a Shopaholic is a story of a Shopaholic, Becky Bloomwood who is insanely addicted to shopping. She overspends her money with the swipe of her Visa card despite her huge amount of unpaid overdrafts. She rationalize the way she overspends on useless stuffs by calling it an investment. Though she works as Financial Journalist, she barely pays attention to anything related to finance. This book might seem pretty outlandish to the people who know how to look after their money but with the due course of the book, the readers will understand Becky and her desires to buy stuffs, if not wholly, at least 50 percent.

It’s a hilarious novel which mainly revolves around Becky Bloomwood and her branded voguish world. The trademark witty humor of Sophie Kinsella can be distinctively witnessed at many sequences. The way Becky absurdly fibs without a moment’s thought and how that gets her into the tight spot was absolutely funny and worth the read. One of the most interesting thing about this book is, almost all the chapters starts with the reply letters received by Becky Bloomwood from her bank. Those letters were the funniest of all. And Becky’s relationship with her bank manager, Derek Smeath was something really interesting and amusing. Her relationship with her best friend Suze Cleath-Stuart and how considerate her friend was to her was really nice to read. Suze was an ideal friend, anybody would die for. The rare recurring presence of Luke Brandon was enchanting and it will definitely make the readers move forward with the book eagerly. Luke would make a worthy Book Boyfriend. This book will take you through all the stores in London.

In the beginning though the plot line seemed pointless and vague but as the story commenced it started to take shape beautifully. And towards the end and all, it turned out to be exciting and compelling read. The writing style and the flow of the book was as amicable as any Sophie Kinsella’s books. It will make the readers laugh at least once during the read.

My Views

This book is more or less an introduction to the series, it will make you understand what kind of person is Becky Bloomwood and it is a door into her world. So you cannot expect more than that in this book. It is a feel good book and really a fast read. Absolutely suitable for this lazy quarantine days.

I would suggest this book to Chicklit lovers, shopaholic and people who appreciate feel good books. You guys will definitely love it.

My rating for this book would be

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I hope you will like this book as much I liked it. Do read this book and tell me how you feel about it.
