“None of us ever know all the possible courses our lives could take, and maybe should have taken”

Review :

It is one of the novels which will keep you hooked up to it till the very end. The author is well-versed at giving details and her observations about every little thing was fabulous, which helps the readers to see the picture vividly. The flaws of every character was shown realistically, these flaws are the things which makes a person a human. These characters are the classic examples for the imperfections in humans, which implies no human is perfect and they all tend to do mistakes one time or the other, after all we are all humans indeed.  The parts with Berlin Wall was pretty informative but it was explained in so much depth that it almost made the readers feel bored, it could have been chopped off without a moment’s thought. Tess’s side of the story was nice and subtle, it had a good plot but her portions with Connor Whitsby seems to be irrelevant and forced, there was no point in them rekindling their flunked relationship. That was unnecessary attachment to the plot and these parts could have been gloriously avoided. The most impressive thing about this book was the emotional trauma that a human undergoes after committing a wrongdoing with or without their knowledge was written and showcased brilliantly. The unsettling feeling all these characters carries throughout the plot with a heavy heart for a minor or major part that they played in the mishaps was understandable and acceptable. And the epilogue revealed few unknown facts behind the sequence of events which was only available for the readers and not for the characters. It would have been much more satisfying, if they too had the chance to know these facts.

“Falling in love was easy, anyone could fall. It was holding on that was tricky”

My View :

My favorite part in this book was the chapter in which John-Paul confesses about his secret to Cecelia, that was so intense and touchy. On the whole it was a good read and the book had the ability to stay put. in my views this book was good but not very enchanting or it is not the kind of book about which I will happily vociferate or recommend to all. Something was amiss throughout the journey. Only a selective group of people will like it but the way of writing, observation and the plot was cool and it was worth reading.

If you like small community / countryside stories or multiple characters converging to the same plot line kind of stories or have a thing for minute detailing then you will really like this book by Liane Moriarty.

My rating for this book is : 3.5 / 5  🌟   rating
