Sniper's Eye

Blurb

I was out on a date. Everything was perfect… Till that shot… a high-caliber one, no apparent sound. And, the man in front of me fell. A rifle with a suppressor? A sniper in the middle of a Mumbai mall? As the body count mounted, I was soon sucked deeper into the chaos unleashed by that shot. To survive and save those whom I care about, I have to become the man I left behind. I have no choice but to tap into a bloody past that has put me on the terror kill list. I may also have no option but to join hands with the sniper terrorizing Mumbai. The problem is that the man has sworn to kill me. In a world where the young and poor kill and die in conflicts started by the old and rich, I and my unlikely companion finally discover the thin line that separates a mere killer from a hero. This is our story…

Review

Sniper’s Eye by Mainak Dhar is the first book in the seven book sniper series. There are certain books which has the power to capture your attention and take you right away into the book from the very first line. The excitement and the pleasure these books makes us feel is very special and it’s obviously one of the best feelings in the world. Sniper’s Eye is one such book, it had a very impressive first line and I was sold right away!!

Sniper’s Eye is a crime thriller set out in India, it had very good plot filled with lot of thrilling elements, action and twist. It was complete package. So if you are an Indian and you have always craved for a thriller to be set out in your region, then this book is the answer to all your prayers.

So let me tell you the story-line of the book, Sniper’s Eye is the story of Aditya Gosh who works in a corporate company, he has a dark past which he doesn’t want to reveal or think about ever again but ironically it decides to march it’s way back into his life. And there is a Sniper out there in the lose who is the cause for all the terror attacks that’s been taking place in the country. Somehow Aditya Gosh is connected with all these attacks. So, how is Aditya Gosh is connected to them all and what is he running away from ? And who is this Sniper and what does he want ? To know all these things you should read the book.

This book would be such a welcome change to all the readers who have reading convention love stories by Indian authors all their lives. As I said earlier, the plot was absolutely brilliant and gripping. I specifically have to talk about the characterization of the characters. All the characters had their very own purpose and all of them played their role just perfectly. There wasn’t even a single useless character which could’ve been eliminated, every character had a genuine role to be played. There was this character called Aman. His role wasn’t a full-fledge one, it was only limited but that doesn’t stop his character from making a mark on the readers mind. It felt good to read about this character.

This book gives a lot of insight about intelligence bureau, army and RAW. It also talked about foreign affairs and political stuffs. It gave the insiders story and I also like the parts where the author has detailed explained about the life of army officers, their thought process. It was very interesting to read. The author has also managed to tell the story of terrorists to a limited extend, fair enough to understand their position as well.

The story in itself was complete and the plot was flawless. But in the middle and all, the pace of the book started to slow down a bit, of course it picked up in no time but still it was very obvious. There was a lot of action sequences in the book, it was enjoyable but at times it felt quite cinematic because you haven’t seen anybody fight and become a hero in real life. This thing was nudging my mind throughout the book. And I also had some issues with the certain ideologies in the book but these are futile things which can be ignored without a second’s thought because on the whole the book was so good and I really enjoyed it. It’s worth the read.

My Views

I totally loved the book, as I told you before, the opening line itself was really good and impressive. The second book in the series Sniper’s Debt is already out and it also has a very impressive opening line and a blurb. I will surely read this book, I simply can’t wait to read this book.

I totally enjoyed this book a lot because this book happened to me at a perfect timing. Before reading this book I was neck-deep in a very bad writer’s slump and reader’s block, two very deadly disease to affect a book lover. This book alleviated me from these sufferings and I cannot stop thanking this book and the author enough for helping me out.

My rating for this book would be 4 out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I would recommend this book to all the thriller lovers out there and the language was very good and easy to read, so, it is suitable for beginners too. If you are someone who is bored with Indian author’s regular college romance and love stories then you should really check this book out without fail.
